Nightlife in Riyadh probably isn't the nightlife you know from your own country, there are no nightclubs or disco's here, the only place where singles and families can enjoy themselves are hotels and restaurants. Because of it's Islamic religion alcohol is forbidden (even in the hotels) in Saudi Arabia and severly punished when used or handled. Riyadh is the strictest city concerning nightclubs, alcohol and clothing (for men and women).

After reading this you might think that there is no nightlife at all, but you are wrong, there is no western world style nightlife. Riyadh nightlife starts after the sunset prayer, after the sun sets the weather cools down and people go out and enjoy a family dinner, walk around enjoying the cool evening and beautiful Riyadh by night, smoke a traditional waterpipe or drive around and show off the car on Thalia Street.

There are many good western world style or traditional coffeehouses in Riyadh where people talk, play cards or watch other people. Go to the cinemas, festivals, events or one of the beautiful parks.
